Portview

The original curved rear elevation of this chalet bungalow faces east with a 180 degree view towards the entrance of a busy local port, where the daily comings and goings of small and large boats provide interest every day of the year. Our brief was to replace the existing rectangular conservatory that had been awkwardly ‘glued’ to the curved rear wall with a new sun lounge and first-floor roof terrace to take advantage of the views together with a new guest bedroom extension.

After various design reiterations attempting (unsuccessfully) to abut the new sun lounge and terrace up against the existing house, we pulled the extension away from the house, provided access through a glazed link pivoted from the new guest bedroom extension and roof terrace access via a small dormer. The added benefit was twofold - a sheltered south facing three-sided courtyard garden was created between the original house and the new extension and direct views towards the port were now achievable from the existing property.

Planning consent was granted within the 8-week determination period and technical design will commence in July ready for construction to commence spring 2024.
