New Local Authority Family House
A new family home on a redundant garages site for local authority housing tenants.
This two storey, 3 bedroom house, on the site of five vacant car garages, is located at the end of a street of council housing. Feedback from a ‘pre application’ planning enquiry has been positive and a detailed planning application has been submitted.
Analysis of the housing in the adjacent estate has led to an architecture that does not mimic its neighbours or create a pastiche of the surrounding estate housing but draws inspiration from the prevalent forms and materials.
The proposal allows for a construction of a highly insulated airtight external envelope, high internal thermal mass and includes photovoltaic solar panels, air source heat pump, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and triple glazed windows, in order to substantially reduce energy costs for the tenant. To further reduce the environmental impact cement free concrete has been specified for the foundations.
