This modest garden room extension and internal alterations to a 1930’s family home seeks to maximise the communal family living areas as well as reinforcing the connection with the raking garden.

The design punctuates the ground floor with a sympathetically conceived single storey extension with large wraparound corner glazing, a hanging bay with built-in window seat and a sedum roof with large rooflights to maximise light and views of sky. The internal spaces flow seamlessly into the outdoor terraced breakfast area adjacent to the new extension harnessing the morning sun.

The extension remains subservient to the host building although its material articulation of natural sweet chestnut boarding provides a clear separation between the existing and proposed components of the house.

In addition a large master suite has been designed within the roofspace with views out over the garden as well as distant sea views.

A successful planning application and technical design phase led to the project commencing on site in spring 2025 with a view to completion later in the year.
