ABIR architects are a well-established local practice founded on the equality of our architectural ambitions to deliver beautifully designed and well-detailed, sustainable architecture. The practices projects range from small to large scale residential developments, one-off houses, commercial, cultural and educational buildings, community projects, mixed-use developments, heritage projects and master-planning. Most of the practice’s work is in South/East England, with notable exceptions in Scotland.

Our wide and varied portfolio underlines our success in securing planning permission in many different and challenging locations including areas of sensitive national parkland, registered landscapes, areas of outstanding natural beauty, conservation areas and historic townscapes.

Practice directors Giles Ings (RIBA) and Matthew Richardson (RIBA) are based in the studios in Brighton & Hove and lead a multi-disciplinary creative and technical team consisting of architects, architectural assistants and architectural technologists.

For us, good design means contextually appropriate, innovative, imaginative and sustainable responses. We approach sustainability not as an add-on but as integral to the design process and encompassing both environmental and social aspects of each project. Our portfolio projects are wide ranging in content, brief, and budget, with a mix of new-build and refurbishment.

We pride ourselves on delivering a high quality, collaborative approach on all projects with the client, stakeholders, local authorities, funding bodies and community organisations as well as other design team consultants. The aspiration with all work is to produce a cohesive and well considered architectural response that embraces the requirements of the brief and everyone involved as well as delivering projects that exceed expectations.
